by david

On a misty drizzly Sunday 19 July 71 members gathered at High Glannau to be welcomed by the owners Helena & Hilary Gerrish,  who had graciously opened their house and garden to the Society for its Hog Roast Summer Garden Party

In her welcome Helena  talked of the houseand gardens which had been built by H Avray Tipping, the writer and garden architect who was responsible for building three of the finest Welsh gardens of early 20th century, They being Matthern Place, Mounton House, and High Glannau. A fourth for a friend  was at Wyndcliffe Court (where members had enjoyed the 2009 summer garden party

Helena is writing the biography of H Avray Tipping

In between the showers members traversed the gardens, appreciating the design, texture,planting and views

Eileen Grassby and Keith Underwood are to be congratulated for arranging such a wonderful venue and the Hog Roast from Courtney Harley

Music on the harp throughout the afternoon  by Marie-France added much to the event

A mention must be made of the work of the car parking marshals, who kept the cars flowing

A pictorial record was taken by the editor, a display of which will be at the next general meeting  on 21 July. Some are shown below;
