The Society Book Launch, 30th June 2007

Thomas Street Book Launched Saturday 30 June 2007

A Packed, standing room only Wycliffe Room, of the Methodist Hall, Chepstow, gave a warm welcome to Thomas Street; Courts and Characters author Steve Ryan

Chairman of the Society, David Barber in welcoming the public to the book launch, spoke of the importance to Chepstow of such local historic publications. He invited Marjorie Evans, to introduce Steve

Marjorie gave thanks to the team responsible for the production of the book, in particular mentioning Chris Penrose, Anne Rainsbury, Trevor Evans and Henry Hodges. She then spoke of her early memories of Steve, prior to introducting Steve, and asking him to say a few words about the book and his childhood memories, upon which it is based

Steve thanked the Society for taking on the task of publishing these early memories of Thomas Street, a "slum" area of Chepstow. He reminisced about life and the people in the courts that made up Thomas Street, and of the friendship with the societies instigator Ivor Waters, who so encouraged him to put his many memories to paper, now being profoundly proud of having a publication of his early life

David Barber thanked Steve and invited those present to refreshments and an opportunity of purchasing the book for 3.95, adding that Steve would be delighted to sign copies purchased

He was kept busy, signing some 100 copies sold there. Many more being purched elsewhere at the Cheptow Museum, andThe Book Shop.

They can also be obtained through the Socity its self
